THE PERKS OF PERMANENT MAKEUP.

First, I feel it necessary to tell you about how I feel about makeup. I am an elder millennial. I did not watch makeup tutorials until about two years ago and that was only because the beautiful girl was talking about true crime while she painted her gorgeous face. The most I knew about putting on makeup came from my friend's aunt, a MaryKay rep, before junior prom. I wore it all the time whether I knew what I was doing or not. Even now, I don’t wear a lot, but I definitely don’t leave the house without it.

Secondly, let it be known that my best feature is my eyes. (Thanks, mom!) They are striking and most people I make eye contact with, comment on them. When I figured out that outlining them in the darkest black eyeliner actually made them more noticeable, I was hooked. Eyeliner quickly became my most prized possession inside my makeup bag. It continues to be the part that makes me feel the most confident!

As I have grown older, my love for eyeliner has never wavered. However, I started to notice that keeping it on my eyes was getting harder and harder. By the end of most days, it would melt and smear adding to my haggard appearance which only got worse with sleep deprivation of becoming a new mom. My allergies and contacts also caused some grief and touch ups during the day were a hassle.

A year after my son was born, I was invited to a girls weekend at the lake. Two of the three girls had permanent eyeliner and were discussing the perks. I was enthralled by the conversation and asked them as many questions as I could think of. All weekend, I watched them get up looking put together, and easily go from lake to restaurant without a care in the world. Their eyes looked perfect, never ran, and gave them that ready in a flash face that I was craving. I immediately was like, “give me her number!”

Erin Meier was their go to gal. Erin looked at my makeup color and style and decided on the darkest and thickest line my top and bottom lids could take. I loved it! It was truly painless with numbing cream and the next day when I woke up to swollen eyes, I followed Erin’s directions to the T. Within a day, I was enjoying the perks of not having to paint on eyeliner by hand ever again.

Before returning for my touchup about 60 days later, I called Erin’s office to have my eyebrows done during that same visit. Erin helped me with the powered brow technique which gave me a nice penciled-in look. Remember my millennial makeup origin story? My brows were over plucked– almost nonexistent. Erin was able to build shape, symmetry, and structure to my face that I didn’t know I desperately needed. For me, it changed my appearance and my makeup game. And to think, two parts of my routine that I didn’t have to apply ever again.

As my get up and go routine has evolved over the years, my favorite part is the confidence I gained by having permanent makeup. The time and energy I got back was also a nice perk. Now, I’m thinking I need a nice lip blush and filler for my next birthday! What a treat!
